Here We Are Together . . .

Alek finally arrived home from Arizona today (two days late -- that's the fun of flying standby). I am so glad he is home. We had a nice evening where we actually kept the TV turned off and all ate dinner together at the table and even sorta had a family home evening. Earlier today, Alek wrote a letter to Governor Schwarzenegger, mostly consisting of pictures of his "inventions" ( a flyboard and a buggy knife) with a P.S. that these are for the U.S. Army.

How can you not want a kid like that in your life?

Easter with My Family

Easter was a strange holiday for us this year. Alek went out of town the Saturday before Easter and won't be back for a couple of days, so we had our Easter egg hunt a little earlier than usual. We went to a local park with Grandma, Aunt Doreen and the cousins and let them look for plastic eggs. We didn't even dye eggs this year at all -- how lame are we?!

It was Katie's first hunt and at first it was hard to get her to even pay attention to what was going on. She was more interested in the Cheetos.

But she figured it out eventually.

Alek found a ton of eggs. It was a good day for him.

Then the Friday/Saturday before Easter, I went camping overnight with the youth from church. And for the first time in my life, I shot a gun. 4 guns actually -- a 9 mm, a 22 rifle, a 30 30 lever action and a 12 gauge shotgun. The 30 30 was my favorite, but I don't have any pictures of me shooting with that one.

On Sunday, I tried to get cute pictures of Katie and Charlie in their Easter clothes. Katie wouldn't stand up or take her hand away from her face. I got some cute shots of Charlie, but only realized later that unflattering images of Josh were in the background.

And because some of you want to know what I look like 40 pounds thinner, here's a pic of me on Easter (in my size 10 Easter dress). It's not a full body shot, because I am not real comfortable with that right now. And the shooting picture doesn't count because I am wearing layers of baggy clothes.

Josh missed church on Easter because he had to go get a tetanus shot. He scraped his leg on a rusty screwdriver putting his parents' lawnmower away. Cool, huh?

I had assumed we would be eating Easter dinner with Josh's family, even though they hadn't officially invited us over. Turns out, Josh's mom was sick. So we stayed home and Josh and Katie ate a cheese omelet and fried potatoes and I had a turkey sandwich and a baked potato. Very traditional Easter food . . .

All in all, a weird Easter. But not bad.

I Did Something Very Out of Character

I ate cereal for dinner.

Isn't that weird?

I mean, for me.

Alek's Story

He doesn't have the title written here, so I am not sure what it's called, but Alek wrote a little story that I'm posting below.

Chapter One: The Beginning

Once upon a time there was a castle that was so big that tons of guards had to guard it! There was a king who was very, very sad because his daughter was kidnapped by a wizard who was the king's arch enemy! He would let anyone marry her if they could find and save her.

There was also a father who had three sons. Their names were Josh, Charles and Alek. Josh was the oldest. Charles was the middle. Alek was the youngest. The oldest son wanted to try to win the princess. He walked and walked. He finally came to the castle.

Chapter Two: The Argument

Josh talked to the guard and the king! They had a huge argument! The oldest refused to take the test of his capabilities. The same thing happened with Charles. But when Alek took the test, he passed.

Alek started his journey. As he started his journey, he met an old man. The man said, "Come with me and I will show you the way." Alek, seeing the wizard's marks on the man's belt, said, "No way!"

As he traveled, he saw a dark knight (dark means he's evil) standing not far from where he was. He quickly hid in some nearby bushes. The dark knight had a mask over his face. He also had a sword and shield.

Alek waited until the knight was far away, then he snuck inside. The castle was beautiful! The walls were gold and silver!

Chapter Three: The Secret Door

Then, he looked down the hall. There he saw a secret door. It had a sign on it that meant death. Quickly, he ran to the door. He opened the door and found that there were stairs -- thousands of them! He ran up them to the top of the castle. There was the princess! She was about to get eaten by sharks.

The wizard saw Alek and shot lightning at him. Alek drew his magic sword and blocked it. The fight began! Alek finally won and took the princess back to the king. And they lived happily ever after!

The End

Home Sweet Home

Just winged home from beautiful (but chilly and overcast) San Diego. We had a conference and then board meeting for work down there and I was without my family for four whole days. It truly was not fun to be away with them. And I have to do it again in November!! How will I stand it?

Highlight of the weekend: A woman asked me, "So, are your pregnant?" I thought, "No, but I'm never wearing this shirt again." It pretty much destroyed any self-esteem that losing 40 pounds has helped me gain. I guess it's just further proof that I have a long way to go.

True highlights of the weekend: Coming home. Josh picking me up at the airport. Kate screeching in happiness when she saw me. Hugging and kissing all three of my beautiful children. The pistachio creme brulee we had for dessert at the board dinner last night. Talking to my boss, Angela. Seeing the San Diego temple. And did I mention coming home?
